It was a huge goal for us to lose weight after the birth of our children. Between us we shed over 100 lbs and have kept it off. Here are 4 nutrition tips we often offer moms who we work with on transformation themselves.

1. Don’t Starve Yourself

You have to eat to loose. People often don’t eat enough and they skip meals thinking they are doing themselves a favor. One of the most important lessons we learned was that it was vital for us to feed ourselves with healthy nutritious clean foods frequently throughout the day. The best way to avoid cravings and ensure you make healthy choices is to eat! Love your body by nourishing it and it will love you back.

2. Pay attention to portion sizes

Because we live in a society that often encourages overindulgence it’s easy to not realize how much we consume. The best way we have found to figure that out is to spend a little time tracking what we eat. This is easily done by reading labels and determining what a portion consists of. Nuts are a great example. They are an excellent healthy fat to include in your diet but it’s so easy to eat tons of them in one sitting. Spend some time pre-bagging them in single servings. It takes the guess work out of eating.

3. Don’t Completely Omit Foods You Love

Eating requires a little bit of thought. It’s important to be mindful about your choices but that doesn’t mean you should completely restrict yourself. If you love wine, or cheese or chocolate allow yourself to have it occasionally. Just remember the 80/20 plan. Stay on track the majority of the time. When you do have those treats you will enjoy them much more.

4. Give Your Food Time to Digest

It’s important not to allow yourself to get over hungry. Eat meals regularly and when your done give yourself a chance to digest your food. It takes a bit of time for your brain to register you’ve eaten. Commit to eating a reasonable size portion and if you are still hungry after 20 minutes have a bit more. Include lean protein, complex carbohydrates and healthy fats in your meals and snacks. Another great tip is to drink a tall glass of water before eating more. Sometimes that does the trick.
